Thoughts:
Part of what makes this story interesting is that nothing truly fantastical or metaphysical physically happens - everything (except maybe the last few paragraphs) could potentially really happen in reality. But the way it is written about makes these ordinary (though macabre) events otherworldly. The way the main character interacts with the reality around her, and the way she processes the things that have happened to her, make the reading experience strange and mysterious and paranormal.
